Police issue warning about cleaning scam COUNTY - Seniors living in apartments are being warned about scammers operating in the area.
Mounties say cleaners are approaching tenants of seniors' apartments offering to steam clean carpets and upholstery for a predetermined amount of cash. However, once the service has been provided, the supplier then attempts to obtain extra money claiming they've provided extra services. The supplier offers to take the client to a financial institution to obtain any required cash. Police say two apartment buildings in Lunenburg were targeted on December 27. It does not appear at this time that the cleaners were successful in obtaining extra cash from those clients, but an investigation determined the business is not registered. The RCMP suggest that citizens who wish to utilize such services contact the Better Business Bureau before engaging the business. posted on 01/04/12 |
