Lunenburg Sessions moves to new day, venueby Robert Hirtle![]() New Ross singer-songwriter Janice Cornelius will be the opening performer at the January 12 edition of the Lunenburg Sessions Concert Series. The January edition of the Lunenburg Sessions Concert Series will feature the talents of noted Lunenburg County singer-songwriter Jamie Junger.
A native of Chester, Mr. Junger received his first guitar at age nine after which he began learning classic folk songs and writing his own material. Following his teenage years which were influenced musically by the likes of Jethro Tull, Cat Stevens and Neil Diamond, Mr. Junger joined the navy, eventually settling in Vancouver where he co-founded the bands Bob's Your Uncle and The Wingnuts. During that period he shared the stage with many prominent names in popular music, including Trooper, J.J. Cale, Hole, Los Lobos, Billy Bragg, The Tragically Hip and The Barenaked Ladies. In 1998, Mr. Junger returned to his East Coast roots, married and began teaching music. He also continued to write, record and perform in the local area. This past November he collaborated with his daughter Sadie on their first children's album, "Fishin' for Pickles." Opening for Mr. Junger is New Ross native and resident Janice Cornelius. Ms Cornelius, who began playing guitar in her 20s as a hobby, joined Mr. Junger's Plugged Into Music program four years ago, where she developed an interest in writing her own songs. Although a relative newcomer to the local music scene, she has several public performances to her credit, including an appearance at the LaHave Folk Festival this past September. The upcoming Lunenburg Sessions concert marks a new direction for the popular series, as it moves to a new day and venue. advertisement Henceforth, performances will take place at Scuttlebutt Restaurant, 139 Montague Street, Lunenburg, on the second Thursday of each month. Doors for the January 12 concert will open for a bistro supper at 6:30 p.m., with music beginning at 7:30 p.m. For more information on the Lunenburg Sessions Concert Series visit http://www.facebook.com/Lunenburg Sessions. posted on 01/04/12 |
