Woman charged with stabbing appears in courtAllegations put off so lawyer can review Crown's caseby Lisa Brown BRIDGEWATER - The Bridgewater woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend on New Year's Eve made her first court appearance on assault charges January 12.
Twenty-year-old Katelin Leigh Whitney-Joudrey stood quietly, head lowered and eyes downcast, as her lawyer spoke briefly with the judge. Alan Ferrier told Judge Gregory Lenehan he had just received the Crown's disclosure information the previous day. "It's a very serious matter and I haven't had the opportunity to review that with my client," he said, asking to have the allegations adjourned until January 26 before entering elections and pleas. Ms Whitney-Joudrey is charged with two counts of aggravated assault - one for wounding and the other for endangering the life of 24-year-old Kiel Oliver Naugler. She is also charged with assault with a knife. On New Year's Day, police announced that they had been called to a Ron Street address just after 1 a.m. They found a man who had been stabbed in the neck and back of the head. Paramedics rushed the man to South Shore Regional Hospital. He was later transferred to the QEII where he underwent surgery and was, for a time, listed in critical condition. The man has since been released from hospital. Ms Whitney-Joudrey remains free on conditions, including that she have no contact with Mr. Naugler. posted on 01/18/11 |
