POSITION: Web Press Operator
REPORTS TO: Production Manager
NAME: Ron Demone
Position Summary:
Responsible for the maintenance and operation of the web press and ensures that the quality of the printed product meets the company's standards.
Position Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of machinery to ensure appropriate health and safety is maintained. Performs basic regular maintenance checks on equipment including forklift and orders parts and service as required.
2. Responsible for ensuring quality and accuracy of finished product through the operation of the web press to meet agreed upon standards
3. Ensures that the inventory of press room supplies such as newsprint, ink and chemicals are maintained and ordered as required
4. Receives incoming press room supplies and operates forklift to stack inventory of paper
5. Mixes colors of ink as necessary and pumps ink into the fountains and sets the fountains according to the printing job.
6. Sets the press and paper according to the job
Position Requirements:
• High School diploma
• A minimum of 2 years of related experience in a printing environment
• Understanding of mechanical aspects of press machinery
Decision Making:
• Determines what type and color of ink to use depending on the product
• Determines what size and grade of newsprint to use for the job
• Decisions regarding quality of product
Responsibility for Work of Others:
This position does not supervise other employees
Communications:
Internal:
• Production Manager, Circulation Manager and Bindery to discuss production and quality
• Other Press Operators to discuss projects
External:
• Suppliers such as Heidelberg Incorporated, Goss International, Ink Companies, Press Room Chemicals regarding parts and service of equipment and supplies
Effort:
• Daily lifting roll shaft - 60 - 70 pounds
• Moves ink drums by forklift that weigh 200kg
• Cleaning gears
• Using measuring tools
Working Conditions:
• Emotionally charged situations due to the constant deadlines in a newspaper environment
• Constant noises and smells from press |
